Bilimsel Modeller Bağlamında Temsil Problemi

Birçok bilim felsefecisinin ortak kanaati modellerin bilimsel etkinlikte
temel bir rol üstlendikleri fikriyse, bir diğeri de onların gerçek dünya sistemlerinin temsilleri olduklarıdır. Ne var ki, bilimsel temsilin doğası hakkında bir görüş birliği olduğu söylenemez. Düşünürler bilimsel temsil problemi adını alan bu probleme bir yanıt bulma çabasında, bir temsilin bilimsel olmasının gerek ve yeter koşulları bakımından birbirlerinden ayrılırlar. Bir tür morfizmi benimseyen yapısalcılar temsili, model ile hedef sistemin özelliklerine indirgerler. Yapısalcılar bir modelin hedef sistemi temsil edebilmesi için ona yapısal anlamda izomorf ya da kısmen
izomorf olması gerektiğini öne sürerlerken, benzerlik izahı savunucuları
modelin hedef sisteme benzemediği sürece onu temsil edemeyeceğini iddia ederler. Diğer bazı düşünürler ise temsili, modeli kullananların bilişsel etkin-
likleri açısından kavrarlar. Ancak göreceğimiz gibi iki görüş de birçok sorunla
karşılaşır. Bu iki görüşe karşıt bir başka görüş ise bilimsel temsili, genel anlamda temsilin bilimde ortaya çıkan bir örneği olarak görür ve onu temsil kategorisi altında değerlendirir. Bu yazının ilk bölümünde güçlü ve zayıf izahlar adını vereceğimiz ilk iki görüş ele alınarak bu görüşlerin bilimsel temsil problemini çözemedikleri gösterilecektir. İkinci bölümde bilimsel temsil probleminin sahte bir problem olduğunu iddia eden görüş değerlendirilerek, oldukça tartışılan bu son görüşün, kabul edilenin
aksine bilimsel temsil problemi hakkındaki bazı kısır tartışmalara işaret
ettiği savunulacaktır [...]
