Abstract

Like Janus, the god of boundaries, whose one face turns to the past and the other to the future and who represents the dual nature of the limit/boundary, Kantian philosophy both offered a critical perspective in favor of resolving the ancient problems of philosophy and shaped the history of philosophy with the boundaries/limits it set. However, Kantian critique is a criticism of the possibilities and boundaries/limits of the use of reason beyond experience rather than a criticism of systems or persons. Therefore, although it is possible to analyze Kant’s philosophy within the context of various concepts, an examination of the concept of boundary/limit offers a richness that makes it possible to trace correlations related to the basic aims of Kantian philosophy. On the other hand, if the technical distinction between the use of Grenze and Schranke, which Kant prefers to use for the concept of limit/boundary, is not taken into account, one will be deprived of an in-depth reading of Kant’s philosophy. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to examine Kant’s project of setting the limit/boundary more closely within the context of the technical distinction regarding the use of the concept of limit/boundary, which is a key concept for Kantian philosophy. The main argument of this study is to propose that Kant uses the Grenze-Schranke distinction in order to demonstrate that he does not completely rule out the possibility of metaphysical issues that are beyond the boundaries/limits of human cognitive faculties existing independently of these faculties [...]
