Peace as a Constituting Concept of Philosophy
The Birth and Scientification of Utopias of Peace

This paper is written as a part of a project in which I wish to present the concept of “peace” as a constituting concept of philosophy. In this paper, which is a product of at least 15 years’ research, theoretical attempts to meaningfully investigate about war and peace are historically presented. The central theme of the paper is the transformation of the desire of peace into utopian idea and afterwards its transformation into a concrete realisable scientific utopia. Only after such a historical research there can be shown what the sources of the concept of peace are in the systematic structure of theoretical philosophy and presented where its systematic place lies in practical philosophy is. If we take into account those few days of peace in the history of humanity and compare it with the long history of wars it becomes clear that we cannot determine even few episodes without war. The history of humanity is full of violence, destruction and wars. This observation leads Karl Marx, when describes the history of humanity and the rise of modern society, to assert that the pages of humanity is written with letters of blood and fire. Thomas Hobbes can even today be seen as one of the best scientific analysists of what war is. In this paper after having given a description of what war means by relying on Hobbes’s account, there is offered a presentation of the perception of peace and war in Greek mythology and monotheist religious sources [...]
